Significance

Showing English while we prepare the translation
Tirunallar Dharbaranyeswarar Temple is the most-visited of the Tamil Navagraha temples and represents Sani (Saturn). Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Dharbaranyeswarar; the Saneeswaran shrine is the principal draw for pilgrims. The temple is in Karaikal district of the Puducherry Union Territory, about 5 km from Karaikal town and 95 km from Thanjavur. Devotees afflicted by Saturn — particularly those undergoing Sade Sati, Ashtama Sani or Saturn transit (Sani Peyarchi, every 2.5 years) — visit to seek relief. Bathing in the temple's Nala Theertham before darshan is the prescribed ritual; legend holds that even King Nala's misfortunes ended here. Saturday is the special day for Sani worship. Six daily rituals are performed from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM.
