- Best time October to March; Wednesday flea market peak
About this place
Showing English while we prepare the translationAnjuna Beach is North Goa's bohemian heart — the place that turned Goa into a global destination in the 1960s when hippie travellers settled along the cliff at Ozran for cheap accommodation, beach parties, and a year-round counter-cultural scene. The 2-km curve of sand stretches from the rocky cliff at the south end (Ozran) to the Vagator boundary at the north.
The Wednesday Flea Market, held every Wednesday between October and April on the south end of the beach, is the longest-running street market in Goa — 1,000+ stalls selling jewellery, clothes, leather, and souvenirs. The trance party scene moved offshore after a 2000 Goa government ban on outdoor music after 22:00, but iconic clubs like Curlies, Shiva Valley, and Hilltop continue daytime sets and special events. The beach itself is rocky in patches with strong currents — Anjuna is more for the scene than the swimming. Adjacent Vagator and Chapora forts make a half-day driving circuit.
