About this place
Showing English while we prepare the translationJog Falls (Gerusoppa Falls) on the Sharavati river plunges 253 metres in four distinct streams — Raja, Rani, Roarer, and Rocket — making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after Nohkalikai. The four streams are unequal in volume: Raja is the steady flagship, Rani fans out as a misty veil, Roarer crashes into a rock midway, and Rocket shoots out in dense pulses. In peak monsoon (July-September) the four merge into a single thundering curtain.
The falls' flow is now controlled by the upstream Linganamakki dam, which means dry-season volume is sometimes a trickle. The viewpoints are split across two banks accessible by separate roads from Sagar town. The Karnataka Tourism Department maintains a viewing gallery on the south bank with a stair-trail to the base of the falls (1,400 steps each way — a calf-burner). Avoid the falls in heavy rain when slick rocks and limited visibility make it dangerous.
