About India Pincode Directory
India Pincode Directory is a free, comprehensive lookup tool covering all 6-digit PIN codes across India's 36 states and union territories. Our database includes details for every post office — head offices, sub offices, and branch offices — with GPS coordinates, taluk, area, and nearby pincode information where available.
Data Source
All pincode data is sourced from India Post, the official postal service of India (indiapost.gov.in). We refresh our database regularly to reflect changes in the India Post postal index. For official or legally binding pincode verification, please consult India Post directly.

How PIN Codes Work
India's Postal Index Number (PIN) system was introduced on 15 August 1972 by Shriram Bhikaji Velankar to streamline mail sorting and delivery. Each 6-digit code encodes a geographic hierarchy: the first digit identifies the postal region, the second the sub-region, the third the sorting district, and the last three digits identify the specific delivery post office.
