About this place
Showing English while we prepare the translationThe Sri Radha Krishna-Chandra Temple, opened on Hare Krishna Hill in May 1997, is the largest ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) temple in the world by floor area. The 7-acre complex was conceived by Madhu Pandit Dasa as a 'cultural complex' rather than a conventional temple: alongside the main shrine, the campus holds a multimedia exhibition on Krishna's life, a Vedic library, the Akshaya Patra Foundation kitchen (which serves over 1.8 million school meals daily across India), and an FM radio station.
The principal shrine (Sri Radha Krishna-Chandra) is reached via a glass-domed darshan hall. Side altars house Krishna-Balarama, Nitai-Gauranga (Chaitanya and Nityananda), and Srinivasa Govinda. The architecture mixes traditional gopuram-style towers with modern Bangalore office-block efficiency — escalators carry visitors between levels, and the gift shop is the size of a small mall.
Visitors of all faiths welcome. Modest dress required. The Sunday evening Hare Krishna feast is the most-attended event. Avoid weekends and Janmashtami (Krishna's birthday, late August) if you want a quieter visit.
