Significance

Tiruvenkadu Swetharanyeswarar Temple is the Navagraha temple for Budha (Mercury). Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Swetharanyeswarar; Budha sits in a separate shrine. The temple stands on the banks of the Kaveri, about 10 km from Sirkazhi. Devotees seek blessings for intelligence, education, communication, business success and mental clarity — domains traditionally governed by Mercury. Wednesday is the special day for Budha worship. The temple is one of the most ancient Shiva sthalams sung by the Saiva nayanmars in Thevaram hymns. Six daily rituals are performed.
