Significance
Suryanar Koil is the only Navagraha temple where the principal deity is Surya (the Sun God) himself, alongside his consorts Ushadevi and Pratyusha Devi. It is the leading temple of the nine Tamil Navagraha sthalas and represents the planet Sun (Suryan).
Devotees visit primarily to seek relief from afflictions related to the Sun in their birth charts, for career advancement, leadership, vitality and health. Sunday, the day associated with the Sun, draws the largest crowds.
The temple performs six daily rituals from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM. It is located near Aduthurai, about 15 km west of Kumbakonam.
