Significance
Showing English while we prepare the translationAlangudi Apatsahayeswarar Temple is the Navagraha temple for Guru (Jupiter). Lord Shiva is worshipped as Apatsahayeswarar (the saviour from danger), with consort Elavarkuzhali (Parvati). The temple also enshrines Dakshinamurthi as the form of Guru. It is about 16 km from Kumbakonam in Valangaiman taluk.
Devotees seek blessings for wisdom, education, marriage, children, prosperity and longevity — areas governed by Jupiter. Thursday is the special day for Guru worship; the Guru transit (Guru Peyarchi, every 12 months) draws huge crowds.
Six daily rituals are performed from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The temple is well-served by buses from Kumbakonam.
