Significance

Showing English while we prepare the translation
Thingalur Kailasanathar Temple is the Navagraha temple representing Chandra (the Moon). Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Kailasanathar, with the Moon (Chandra) installed in a separate shrine. The temple is on the Kumbakonam–Thiruvaiyaru road, about 16 km from Thanjavur. Devotees visit to seek remedies for afflictions of the Moon in their birth charts — particularly for relief from mental stress, family discord and emotional instability. Monday, the day of the Moon, sees the largest gatherings. The temple performs four daily rituals between 6:00 AM and 8:30 PM. Visiting on the new-moon (amavasya) and full-moon (pournami) days is traditionally considered auspicious.
